As expected, you can create a text note, but any of them will do that. Whether you are using the desktop application, the web-based version, or the mobile apps, input is quick and easy. And Evernote is the only app that does this in a way that works for me. My whole productivity system, whether data and documents or project management, hinges on being able to quickly and easily capture any thought, data, text, email, website, screenshot, or anything else. Notion probably has the most powerful and flexible methods of storing and viewing the data but lacks enough efficient ways of input.Īnd to me, without input, the rest just doesn’t work. They all have similar mechanisms for storing data and documents, and most do a reasonable job of retrieving that data. In the same vein, all of the competition is good at storing data.
If all you want to do is take notes, use Notepad. Let’s face it, any of the contenders are perfectly fine, ‘note-taking apps.’ I have mentioned before how I hate that label. I began porting from Evernote to Notion several times, but eventually, I hit a roadblock, turned around, and went home to Evernote.
I probably spent more time with Notion than any other, and have also written tutorials for it. My task and project management tool is ClickUp, and I have hopes that they may replace Evernote someday, but they aren’t there yet. I took a quick look at RoamResearch but could never get a clear picture of the pricing model. I have tested all of the Windows-based known alternatives from OneNote/OneDrive, to the various Google offerings and relative newcomers such as Nimbus and Notion. I have spent considerable time over the last three years or so trying alternatives to Evernote, but like Al Pacino in the Godfather, they keep dragging me back in. But many long-time users such as myself have become impatient with the speed of development and have begun looking elsewhere.
